Presentation mode configuration
In Notebook.link, notebooks and Jupyter-supported files can be rendered as read-only dashboards. By default, only Markdown cells and cell outputs are rendered, but cell inputs can optionally be rendered as read-only code blocks.
There are multiple ways to render the dashboard:
- Fullscreen dashboard: Renders the dashboard in fullscreen.
- Blog-style articles: Renders the dashboard with a blog-post style.
- Slides: Renders the Markdown cells and outputs as slides.
Configuration
To configure the Presentation mode for a notebook:
- Edit the project using the JupyterLab interface.
- Open the Properties Inspector (right panel, accessible via the gear icon button).
- Use the two available configuration panels:
- Specta App Config
- Specta Cell Config
The video below demonstrates how to access the Specta configuration panel, as described above.
Specta App Configuration
In the SPECTA APP CONFIG panel, customize the following settings:
- Top toolbar title: Set a custom title.
- Theme toggle visibility: Show or hide the theme toolbar toggle.
- Page layout: Choose between default, article, or slides.
- Top toolbar visibility: Show or hide the toolbar.
- Layout theme: Select a theme for the preview.
Configuration changes modify the notebook’s metadata. Save the notebook before generating the preview with Specta.
Specta Cell Configuration
In the SPECTA CELL CONFIG panel, adjust:
- Cell source visibility: Show or hide the cell source code.
- Output placeholder visibility: Show or hide the output placeholder.
- Output size: Define the display size of outputs.
You must first select the cell you wish to configure.
Preview
Once configured and saved, open the notebook with Specta as shown in the screencast below:
- Select the notebook in the file browser.
- Right-click on it.
- Choose Open with from the contextual menu.
- Select Specta from the submenu.
The preview will open in a new main area panel.
The preview opens in a separate panel. To view both the notebook and its preview simultaneously, use a multi-panel layout (e.g., side-by-side):
The screencast below demonstrates how to enable a side-by-side view, with the notebook on the left and the preview on the right.
View Modes
In each of the following sections, you will see the three previews of the same initial notebook. For all previews, the source code is hidden.
