Getting started with JupyterGIS

Notebook.link supports JupyterGIS as a first-class citizen of the platform, with a dedicated environment designed for geospatial workflows. The platform natively supports JupyterGIS projects, including interactive story maps for data-driven narratives and built-in STAC catalog support for discovering and working with spatiotemporal assets. This makes it easy to explore, visualize, and share rich geospatial experiences directly in the browser.

Workflow

To create and share a Jupyter GIS project:

  1. Select the default Jupyter GIS Stack environment.

  2. Create your Jupyter GIS project. The video below shows how to select the GIS environment and how to create a project using that environment.

  1. Launch your project.

  2. Create a new GIS project from the JupyterLite launcher, by clicking on the Jupyter GIS icon (green Earth icon). A Jupyter GIS document will open. The video below shows how to launch the project and create a new GIS project in Jupyter Lite.

  1. Work on your project.

Examples

Below are two simple example workflows:

  • Adding a raster tile layer from the gallery and overlaying a GeoJSON vector layer:

Share your GIS project

Once your project is ready, you can create a link and share it as explained on the Create a Notebook link
